History of SNES
Sto. Niño Elementary School is relatively a young school. It opened only in June 1995 with an enrolment of 2,530 pupils manned by 50 teachers. Today, or more than 10 years later, it has a population of 4,816 pupils, 120 permanent teaching staff and a principal.
How SNES came about is a story of how a burgeoning population can change the education landscape of a mere barangay. In 1987, there was only one school named Bagong Silang Elementary School in Brgy. 176 Bagong Silang, Caloocan City located at Phase 1 which was the center of the barangay. The appalling teacher-pupil ratio prompted the school authorities to establish a new school to be carved out from Bagong Silang Elem. School – Unit 1 was born adjacent to its mother school..
To date, Bagong Silang Elementary School Unit 1 was renamed Sto. Niño Elementary School in September 2005. The remaining was prompted by the confusion brought about by having three (3) schools in Bagong Silang carrying the name Bagong Silang Elementary School. The school boasts four separate concrete buildings namely the Main Building which houses same classrooms including the Office of the Principal, the Industrial Building, the School of the Future Building, and the Chinese Chamber Building and all of which are classroom buildings. A gymnasium was also erected in the school campus which has become one of the conferences sites in the district.
Through the years, Sto. Niño Es has also been guided by its school’s mission and vision. The school also implemented the following programs like feeding, intensive remedial reading and reading assessment programs. As part of the community, the school is actively participating in activities initiated by the local government of Caloocan and that of Brgy. Bagong Silang. Pupils are made aware of the anti-illegal drug campaign and zero waste management program aimed to save the environment.
Sto. Niño Elementary School therefore has in a short period of time, has transformed itself from branch of BSES into a matured institution of learning. A changed of school administration took place in January 2010 with Mr. Ernesto L. Mirabel as the new principal. He made several changes in the set-up where classes at the covered-court were relocated all inside the classroom. Use of facilities was maximized. More ground improvements were spearheaded by master teachers. Ecological awareness and Brigada Eskwela were activated. Additional building were erected in the most available to accommodate pupils from Kindergarten to Grade VI.
